We are no longer accepting applications for admission to the M.A. (Intercultural Studies) degree
program. Students desiring intercultural ministry emphasis may instead complete the M.A.
in Ministry and Leadership: Open Track with intercultural studies electives. For more details,
Contact Dr. Terry Burns at tburns@westernseminary.edu,
or at 503.517.1894.
The M.A. (Intercultural Studies) program trains students to communicate the gospel in cross-cultural
settings, no matter where they serve. This training includes cultural analysis, adaptation, ministry
practice, and communication theory -- as well as our trademark integration of biblical and theological
studies. The result is that graduates bring gospel-centered transformation as missionaries overseas,
or as advocates and church planters amongst the increasingly diverse community found in the 21st
century United States.
What makes the Western Seminary
M.A. (Intercultural Studies) unique?
- Put new skills to use for six months of intercultural living and communication in
a full-time, mentored internship
- Study under faculty who bring a combined century of intercultural experience and
research to enrich the classroom
- Conducting intercultural studies at a seminary makes for a rare blend of fully-realized
Christian worldview and theology with applied missiology
