Counseling Program

Judith Needham

Judith Needham, PhD

MFT Program Director

As you know, there are many other schools you may choose to receive an MFT degree. However, students come to our program because of our unique blend of Theology and Psychology. We provide you with a quality education consisting of courses required by the state of California for MFT licensure, with additional courses in Biblical studies and Integration.

Our courses are taught by experienced Christian Psychologists and Marriage and Family Therapists who take a special interest in equipping you with the tools necessary for practice. Our approach to education is three-pronged: 1) Theory, 2) Practice and 3) Personal. We believe in giving you a strong theoretical background, along with practical experience (small group process) and personal reflection.

If you have questions about the Marital and Family Therapy program, please contact the MFT Administrative Coordinator, Dan Jackowitz.

BPPVE NEWS UPDATE (April 9, 2008)
As of July 1, 2007, the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education closed. This bureau approved the Western Seminary San Jose site's accreditation under the Northwest Association of Schools and of Colleges and Universities. The bureau's closure potentially impacts students who sit for their licensing examination.

Following the bureau's closure, Western Seminary (San Jose and Sacramento campuses) entered into a voluntary agreement with the Director of the California Department of Consumer Affairs for the purpose of providing Western Seminary with a legal method to operate under California law and to comply with applicable federal statutes, rules, and regulations from July 1, 2007 to January 31, 2008 for financial aid purposes.

Recently enacted law (SB 45) extended the approval of Western's accreditation until January 1, 2009. Current legislation AB 2746 was introduced to the assembly on Feb. 22, 2008 that would establish a successor agency to the former BPPVE bureau to be effective until Jan 1, 2012. You can monitor the progress of this legislation at http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/bilinfo.html.

Students with inquires may contact Dan Ruiz (San Jose Campus) at 408.356.6889 x402 or Dave Fredrickson (Sacramento Campus) at 916.488.3720 x5.
