Description of Agency:
County mental health agency, in business for over 50 years, providing a full range of sevices to Medicaid clients. No other form of insurance or payment is accepted. Primary diagnoses include: schozophrenia, bipolar, and major depression, (dysthymia, PTSD, anxiety, and agoraphobia are sometimes also treated). Clients are offered 6-8 sessions, which may sometimes be extended

- Clients are all receiving Medicaid assistance. A broad variety of issues are addressed, including case managements type issues.

Requirements:
Willingness to learn, nonjudgemental, accepting of diversity, maturity. It is preferred that applicants have a previous internship or some prior counseling-type experience, as well as some personal insight.

Specific Schedule Requirements?
Negotiable, 16 hours on site, 8 client contact. Interns must attend group supervision on Thursdays.

Stressors at this Site:
Challenging clients who are wounded, vulnerable, and intesive (most have some suicidal ideation). There is a lot of paperwork required. Substance abuse issues are also common.

Summary Comments:
The site is excellent for training in that staff are readily available for consultaion and the work is often supported by a team approach. Interns will however, not be premitted to bring spirituallity into their work at this site.
