Description of Agency:
Community Services Northwest is a community mental health agency that oversees work in Mental Health Northwest--a program meeting needs of Medicaid clients and the Wellness Project--a free clinic for clients without insurance. Interns are expected to work one day per week in each program setting.

-Mental Health Northwest serves the needs of Medicaid clients and therefore works with those who are highly suicidal and/or gravely disabled in their daily living skills. The environment for interns is highly supportive with many skilled clinicians available for consultation regarding difficult cases. The Wellness Project serves a broad variety of clients, all of whom have no insurance coverage for mental health issues. Services to Wellness Project clients are free, but limited to six months or twenty-four sessions (there is a six-month waiting list to be seen as a client in the clinic. |

Requirements:
Both first and second year applicants are welcome. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate an openness to feedback and an acceptance of diverse lifestyles. It is anticipated that applicants will treat the internship experience with the same level of commitment and professionalism as they would a paid employment position.
Specific Schdule Requirements?
Interns are required to work two full days--one at each site, Mental Health Northwest and the Wellness Project. Caseloads will average 9-12 clients. Group supervision may also be required.
Stressors at this Site:
The severe acuity of some clients may be stressful to interns, however, there is training available for working with suicidality and in working with those who are gravely disabled in daily living skills.
Summary Comments:
This site offers a rich opportunity to intern with a wide variety of clientele in consultation with numerous skilled professional clinicians. There is a significant difference in clientele between Mental Health Northwest and the Wellness Project which may result in a breadth of experience. Students will also learn the rigors and structure of community mental health.
