Requirements:
An intern must be able to deal with youth, handling the hostility and rebelliousness with grace and appropriate boundaries. Adequate self-confidence is necessary to respond appropriately to teens who can be challenging. The intern must be consistent and responsible.

Specific Schedule Requirements?
Two days per week are required. Scheduling is very flexible, but once established, interns must be responsible and consistent in their attendance.

Stressors at this Site:
Suicide ideation is prevalent. The unexpected and unknowns often present challenges.

Summary Comments:
The director is completing his PhD in Social Work. The model is an evidence-based, mediation model. A separate mental health service is housed next door and may be consulted on cases. Assessment is mandated for the residents, but counseling services are voluntary. The youth are also there on a voluntary basis. Parents of youth must be notified within 72 hours of their arrival and the center strives to involve parents throughout the process. A good opportunity to work with youth, but perhaps more of a social work model than mental health counseling per se.

Directions:
The center is located across the parking lot from the Chamber of Commerce.
