Description of Agency:
Low fee counseling ($12 - $45) for men and women ages 14 and older. No medicare, medicaide or HMO accepted. A second site for counseling services is located at NE Russell and Martin Luther King. The YWCA also runs a residential TOP program for women who are transitioning from prison to the community, the Yolanda House for victims of domestic violence, and two senior service programs.

- AMAC group, anger group, female sexual minority group, depressed women group, and a full range of services to adults. Critical crisis counseling is referred out.

Call the first part of January to schedule an interview with Adrienne Wolmark, Ph.D. (503) 294-7438. Applications are only accepted in January for fall placements--please do not call other times of the year!

Requirements:
Both male and female interns are welcome. Maturity and prior experience are preferred, but not absolutely necessary. Tolerance for cultural diversity, including alternative living styles and sexual orientation, is critical.

Specific Schedule Requirements?
Flexible, but required group supervision on Thursdays 10-12. Students are expected to be on site 16-20 hours per week and maintain an average client load of 8-10 clients per week.

Stressors at this Site:
Must be comfortable with autonomy and making own appointments. The lack of resources to access medication for clients can be difficult.

Summary Comments:
Site offers a lot of autonomy--intern sets appointments, does assessment, sets and collects fees. No limit on number of sessions for clients. Supervision currently is from a psychodynamic or narrative perspective. Interns must be tolerant of cultural diversity including alternative living styles and sexual orientation.

Directions:
(From Western) Take Hawthorne all the way into downtown, crossing over the bridge. Hawthorne will intersect with SW 10th Ave. YWCA Counseling site is west of the Art Museum on the same floor as the Women's Shelter.
