MFT Graduation FAQs

Where and when do I turn in required paperwork?
All paperwork is turned in to Dr. Owens. Please carefully read the Practicum Manual section on graduation requirements to ensure that you know what needs to be turned in to him. All paperwork is due no later than one week prior to the last day of the semester you graduate. Failure to submit paperwork in time could delay your graduation by a semester. We encourage you to meet with Dr. Owens during your last semester to ensure that you have everything in order.

How do I document my personal therapy hours?
Please use the form found in the Practicum Manual, p. 28, “Weekly Summary of Personal Psychotherapy Received”. A copy of this form must be submitted to Western Seminary before graduation, and you will need to keep a copy so that you can complete your MFT Licensing Application with the BBS.

How do I get my MFT intern number?
Please go to the Board of Behavioral Sciences website for instructions on how to obtain an intern number.

How do I obtain my certification letter?
Your certification letter will be sent to you after your degree has been certified. It comes to you in a sealed envelope. Do not open the envelope; send the sealed envelope with your other application materials to the BBS.

How do I obtain a transcript showing my posted degree?
Before the end of your last semester, you may submit a Transcript Request Form. Be sure to check the “Hold for Degree” box. Once your degree has been certified and posted, the transcript will be sent to you in a sealed envelope. Do not open the envelope; send it with your other application materials to the BBS.

How soon can I expect my certification letter and degree-posted transcript?
You can expect these about five weeks after the end of the semester you graduate.

Is there a way to get these documents sooner?
At the beginning of the last semester, you may contact your professors and request that your grades be submitted one week prior to the end of the semester. Professors are under no obligation to do this, but if they agree to, please let the Graduation Coordinator (Wes Ehrhart) know so that grade rosters can be sent early to your professors
