PRE-MARITAL COUNSELING (PREPARE/ENRICH)
Dr. Thiesen’s Pre-Marital Counseling course (PTS 561LS) includes training and certification for Prepare & Enrich.

The class will be on Friday, February 3rd from 3:00pm – 9:00pm & Saturday, February 4th from 9:00am – 6:00pm. The registration date to ensure that course materials are available to you by the start of class has passed (January 20). However, it is not too late to register for the class/seminar. We just cannot guarantee that the course materials will be available to you by the start of class. Prepare-Enrich may need to send them to you after class.

ATTENTION MFT STUDENTS!
Our annual MFT Practicum Orientation will be held on Thursday, February 9th from 6 – 9 pm. This will be a time to receive & review the MFT Practicum Manual and go over its contents.
These include:

  • Listing of MFT Practicum sites
  • Becoming an MFT Trainee
  • Joining CAMFT & buying liability insurance
  • Clinical Supervision & counting hours and
  • Registering as an MFT Intern after graduation.

We will also have representatives from several different MFT Therapy sites. These sites will be there to inform you about their site and promote their programs.

If you are an MFT student who is planning on starting your MFT Practicum, you are required to attend this meeting. If you cannot be there, please let me know.

We'll be having coffee and dessert along with the MFT Practicum Manual, so if you are planning to attend the MFT Practicum Orientation you must RSVP to Dan Jackowitz by Friday, February 4th.

Our Summer 2012 Class Schedule will be posted very soon! We have made some changes to our summer schedule and that means some classes will be extending into the month of July. We are endeavoring to get this information to you as soon as possible. Registration for the Summer 2012 Semester will begin March 1st.

“WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP” (PCS 513S) COURSE BEGINS MARCH 2
Women in Leadership (PCS 513S) - For women only, Fri. and Sat., March 2-3 & 30-31 from 9:00am - 4:30pm. If you are a current student, you have the option of taking the class for credit or audit. Simply register through S.I.S.

COUNSELING ELECTIVES THIS SUMMER - STAY TUNED! SAVE THE DATES
Summer open registration will begin March 1. In the summer semester, we’ll be offering two counseling electives:

  1. Sex Addiction: Setting the Captive Free from Bondage (CNS 564GNS), 2 units Taught by Mary Ann Fifield, DMFT, CAS, CSAT-S, LMFT Sat. 7/28, 8/4 & 8/11 from 8am - 5:55pm. This course will offer an overview of the core imperatives that must be understood and considered by the helping professional for an individual’s and family’s successful recovery from Sex Addiction.
  2. Art Therapy (CNS 564G), 1 unit Taught by Ann Arnold, M.A. LMFT Wed., 7/18 and 7/25 from 5:45-9:45pm, & Friday, 7/27 from 9am - 4:30pm. This is a great addition to the MFT program, whether you want to use it occasionally in your counseling practice or have a niche in Art Therapy.

Bible Works is the premier Windows-based software and our classroom standard. There’s lots of information about it at www.bibleworks.com. We can purchase it through a group discount for Western faculty, staff and students currently enrolled in a degree program for $250 (reg. $349) plus $10 for shipping and handling. We must make a single order for a group of at least 10 people. We will place the order as soon as we have sign-ups and money from 10 people, so get this in soon if you want to get going with the software. Check out our library page for library resources. Use EBSCO Host for peer reviewed journals. You may find it helpful that the Alta Religion database has released five additional digitized titles for a total of 200 digitized journals to date. Ten additional digitized titles will soon be available. Read the update to find out more about these titles. Just simply login to EBSCOhost to search the database. If you don’t know the password, and you are a Western Seminary student, contact the librarian, Sharon Ho.
