What's New With the Academic Calendar
All three Western Seminary campuses will adopt a coordinated academic calendar beginning with the Fall Semester of 2008.  A shift in calendar will involve a shift in academic planning, but not a delay in graduation plans.  That is why the student services staff is committed to helping you successfully navigate these changes without any hindrance or delay.  To view the academic calendar changes, please click here.

San Jose Campus Hours
Now that the Fall semester is in session, the campus hours will resume back to Monday through Friday, 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. The library will be open during these hours, as well as weekday evenings and Saturdays when classes are in session.

Help Us Spread The Word About Western
Do you remember when you heard about Western Seminary for the first time? Maybe a friend or acquaintance told you about us or you found out from our website. That’s where you come in.  Would you be willing to take a few minutes to help us pass on the word about our upcoming Campus Preview Day? Our next Campus Preview event is set for Thursday, September 18th, from 7-9pm.  This is a wonderful opportunity for your friends and acquaintances to come on campus to discover Western Seminary. At Campus Preview they will hear how Western Seminary is an extension of the church and learn about the benefits of our unique integrative education and community here that equips people for ministry.  You can share the Campus Preview Day link or pick up some postcards in the office to hand out or mail out. We can provide the postage.  Thank you in advance!

NEWS UPDATE: Current Legislative and Regulatory Action to Resolve BPPVE Closure
The State legislature and BBS are vigorously attempting to resolve the problems created by the demise of BPPVE, the state regulatory agency that was a bridge between out-of-state accredited school programs, such as Western Seminary’s (both San Jose and Sacramento campuses) Marital and Family Therapy degree programs and the BBS.  This bridge allowed Western Seminary to award MFT degrees in California that the BBS accepted for state licensure.  This agency’s demise potentially impacts the MFT degree program and whether the degree will be recognized for the purpose of state licensure.

Proposed legislation would extend the BBS’s ability to accept qualifying degrees from programs approved by the BPPVE as of June 30, 2007 (to candidates graduating on or before July 1, 2010).  Bill AB 1897 has recently passed both houses and is ready for the Governor's signature.  This bill would also allow the BBS to accept degrees from programs accredited by regional accrediting bodies equivalent to WASC.

Until a permanent solution is created, the BBS is also attempting a strategy through regulation that would permit the BBS to continue to accept degrees for state licensure from accredited schools approved by the BPPVE as of June 30, 2007.  This ability to accept degrees would extend to those degrees that are awarded on or before June 30, 2010.  This regulation would become inoperative should there be legislation that continues the BPPVE.

We applaud the BBS for its proactive efforts and look forward to the permanent resolution to this issue.
