In this class we will explore biblical, psychological, medical, and pastoral care issues related to shepherding people, with emphasis on care for those who live in chronic emotional and spiritual pain. Some of the topics will include mental illness, suicidality, addictions, feelings of spiritual abandonment, God’s providence, spiritual oppression and prayer for healing. We will keep a keen eye on Paul’s vision of the crucial role suffering plays in releasing God’s power in ministry in Second Corinthians. Our goal will be to develop models for releasing the gifts for ministry Christ gives people who live in chronic pain. Believing that all pastors are “wounded healers”, this course will take place at a retreat center with plenty of opportunity for personal refreshment, reflection and discussion about releasing the power for ministry inherent in our struggles. Note: There is an additional cost for the class, which covers accommodations at the retreat center. Arrangements are made by the D.Min. Office.
