SYLLABUS

 

Course Description

Recognizing the importance of using the original language for the interpretation of the New Testament, you will gain a foundational knowledge of Greek. You will learn the essentials of grammar and an adequate vocabulary by reading various portions of New Testament literature and by the use of appropriate language tools. 4 hours plus 2 hours lab.

Course Requirements

  1. The student must come to class with homework completed. (4 hours/class = 8 hours/week)
  2. The student must have completed reading the assigned chapters before the beginning of the class hour. We will discuss the chapters in class. The student will complete the homework assignment after the chapters have been discussed in class. (1 hour/class = 2 hours/week)
  3. There will be daily quizzes. (Time included in 1 and 2 above)
  4. There will be six exams. NB: these will of necessity be cumulative. (Time included in 1 and 2 above)

Attendance: Class attendance is required! This requirement includes the third class hour every evening, which technically is lab.

Grading

The final grade will be determined on the following basis:

The basic grading scale is 100-91% = A, 90-81% = B, 80-71% = C, 70-61% = D. To receive audit credit, you must attend at least 80% of the class sessions and report that fact to the instructor by the final day of class.

All homework must be completed to pass the course. Exams are scheduled at the end of each unit of material. Exams may be made up, if the professor is notified in advance of a legitimate excuse for absence.
