Purpose and Outcome

The Graduate Studies Diploma introduces students to a focused study of the Scriptures, theology, and ministry skill, without the need complete an entire master’s degree.  It provides a well-rounded foundation of biblical education and ministry skills helpful for those serving in support roles, missions work or bi-vocational ministries. Should a student choose to expand their training, the diploma program may be used as the first year of the Master of Divinity, M.A. (Biblical and Theological Studies), M.A. (Intercultural Studies), or M.A. in Ministry and Leadership programs.

This program is intentionally compact and accessible for the purpose of helping each student to prepare for specific area of ministry. Choose from one of the tracks below, or consider building one with an advisor through the Open Track option:


Distance Learning Completion Option

The Graduate Studies Diploma may be completed entirely through distance learning. These courses are delivered on CD-ROM/DVD-ROMs, containing video lectures and PowerPoint slides. Interaction with other students takes place via internet learning centers, and each student works with a faculty member who serves as a course mentor. Admission Requirements

Applicants must have earned a four-year baccalaureate degree or its full educational equivalent from a college or university accredited by a United States association holding membership in one of the six regional accrediting associations, that is a member of the Association of Universities and Colleges in Canada, that is a member of the Association for Biblical Higher Education, or from an institution which maintains similar academic requirements and standards.

Admission requirements for this program include a cumulative grade point average of 2.5. Western Seminary recommends that an applicant’s undergraduate degree contain a minimum of 35 semester hours of the liberal arts and sciences.
