ReGeneration Project Hosts Dialogue Between Atheist and Christian

Is reading the Bible the fastest way to lose faith?

April 28, 2023

The ReGeneration Project hosted a dialogue between a Christian and an atheist on the tough parts of Scripture on May 5, 2023, at Westgate Church in Saratoga, Calif. Around 400 people were in attendance.

Professor Mary Jo Sharp, assistant professor of apologetics at Houston Baptist University, joined in a dialogue with Michael Wiseman, former Christian and now atheist. The discussion was moderated by Dan Kimball, director of the ReGeneration Project, a ministry of Western Seminary.

"We wanted to host an event like this to be bold and not avoid tough topics," said Kimball. "We shouldn't be afraid of criticisms someone has of the Bible."

Kimball added that they intentionally structured the event as a "cordial exchange" rather than a debate.

"Something really important happening today is that the one with the truth doesn't naturally win," he said. "So you can have false teaching seen as more acceptable if done with kindness."
