Labs

Building Healthy Teams, Vancouver: Sandi Phillips; Portland and REVIVE After Five: Joyce Wachsmuth.

Lab: Joyce will share her experiences of leading a variety of teams and being a member of a team for over 30 years. She will address the following questions: What does a healthy team look like? What are the qualities of a healthy team? How do you lead a healthy team? How do I know if my team is healthy or not? What mistakes have I made in leading teams? What are the resources for leading and building a healthy team?

phillips-sandiSandi Phillips has a contagious passion for Jesus, His Word, and for encouraging women to grow in their walk with Jesus. She is a woman of prayer, a leader and mentor. She is a former women’s pastor and currently serves as a Clark County Chaplain. She holds a Graduate Studies Diploma in Pastoral Care to Women from Western Seminary. Sandi and Gary have been married over 45 years and absolutely love spending time laughing with their family.

Joyce WachsmuthJoyce Wachsmuth has been Director of Women’s Ministries at Greater Portland Bible Church for 32 years, on the pastoral staff for 23 years and Director of Children’s Ministries for 6 years. She also has been a conference and retreat speaker for 25 years. Joyce and her husband, Doug, have been Marriage Mentors for over 30 years.  We enjoy being with our children and our eight grandchildren.

Shepherding Women in Troubled Marriages, Carole Wachsmuth.

Lab: We live in such a broken world that the church has been heavily affected by what’s going on in our culture. Many women are being verbally abused or demeaned in someway by their husbands or others   How do we minister to these women? What do they need to equip them to live victorious lives in Christ. This is a practical workshop to address those needs.

Wachsmuth Carole.F14Carole Wachsmuth , Director of Women’s Ministries at SW Bible Church in Beaverton, is captured by God’s Word and seeing women transformed by it. She loves leading and teaching Bible studies and training leaders to know who they are in Christ, equipping them to know how to use their gifts for God’s glory. Prior to this position, she taught in a Christian school for 10 years, was a discussion leader for Bible Study Fellowship for 9 years, and taught adult women English as a second language. Besides her BS degree, she finished the Grad program certificate from Multnomah and is just finishing the Graduate Studies Certificate in Pastoral Care for Women at Western Seminary. She has a special passion for women struggling in difficult marriages and does considerable counseling in this area.

Basic Training 101, Taylor Turkington.

Lab: You want to help people grow in their walk with the Lord, and you want to talk about how? We will lay out tools to help others take the next step in their faith. It will give steps for teaching a high school gal to read her bible or for presenting the gospel clearly to the high schooler’s mom. This is discipleship training you can pass on.

Turkington-TaylorTaylor Turkington works for Southwest Bible Church in Beaverton where she helps lead women’s and student ministries. She is passionate about teaching women how to study the Bible, share their faith, and disciple others. Her favorite part of her job is meeting new ladies one on one to tell them about hope in Jesus. Prior to joining Southwest, she served with Cru in eastern Europe helping to launch a new campus ministry. She has an M.A. in Biblical and Theological Studies from Western Seminary and resides in Portland with her husband Matt and cat Charlie where she enjoys tending her vegetable garden, reading theology, and watching Star Trek.

Renewal: the Heart of Creative Genius, Sandy Snavely.

Lab: Creativity isn’t something we own; it’s a response to something we’ve experienced and that something often comes through pain. It’s in the tears of brokenness that renewal bursts through with creative brilliance, writing words that inspire, painting pictures that bring new dimension to our lives, songs that cause our spirits to soar, all these and more, become artistic responses to the One to whom we owe all things. Do you have an ache in your soul? Healing awaits through the Heart of Creative Genius.

Photo - Sandy SnavelySandy Snavely is a retired radio talk show host who uses her artistic skills to paint pictures with words and turn them into stories that matter. As a speaker, Sandy has shared Christ with women both nationally and internationally. Her latest book, Ellie’s Window, weaves the message of hope through the words of story. She and her husband Bud, have two adult children, two adorable grandchildren and two neurotic cats. Sandy is a lover of God’s Word, and enjoys reading, writing, painting, turning strangers into friends, and creating beautiful food. Follow her blog and visit her website at www.sandysnavely.net

Purpose, Passion, Calling - Living your passion, Robin Mounce.

Lab: As we walk with our Lord we may experience a divorce, firing, ministry break up, ministry booting, kids rebellion, death of a spouse or child, and we ask God “how are you going to grow a flower in the midst of this manure?"   I have learned that God uses our heartaches to cultivate a new purpose, passion and calling for our lives. I believe that God can cultivate a new vision in our lives that is knit to our souls.

Mounce-RobinRobin Mounce has walked with the Lord for over 45 years.  While she does not always enjoy the process of growth and sanctification through difficult times, God has taught her that his healing is what keeps her walking with him intimately.  Robin has mentored and discipled  many women, worked with future pastor’s wives at Gordon Conwell Theological Seminary (Boston) and Western Seminary (Portland), and taught many Bible studies.  For the last several years, Robin has focused on walking with women and especially pastors’ wives who are going through difficult times, whether it be personal, marital, or professional. Robin has been married for over 30 years and has three adult children plus a new daughter-in-law!

Margin: making space to live a faith-paced life, Vancouver and Portland: Stephanie Paulson; REVIVE After Five: Shannon White.

Lab: Are you carrying more than you can handle? Do you think it’s up to you to manage the world? Is your super-sized to-do list exceeding the hours in your day? Are you ignoring the warning signs of your God-given limits? If you’ve answered “yes” to any of these questions, your body, mind, and soul might be starving for some MARGIN in your life – some “breathing room” to slow down, re-evaluate your schedule, and take an honest look at what “good things” in your life might actually be preventing you from pursuing the “best things” you’ve been created for.

Paulson Stephanie.F14Stephanie Paulson is a lover of Jesus, her husband Tyler, and her two kids, Jack (age 10), and Julia (age 8). An Oregonian through and through, Stephanie enjoys staying active, and has a deep love and appreciation for the outdoors and recreational activities. She has called River West Church home for almost 13 years, and is part of the Women’s Leadership Team as well as the children’s ministry program (secretly, she wishes she was still a kid!). Stephanie is passionate about the Word, and has a deep desire to encourage women to apply biblical truths to their modern-day lives. She loves to dig deep, dream big, and strives to live authentically. Stephanie learns daily from the Lord about what’s possible when passion intersects with faith, faith touches lives, and those lives intersect with one another.
