All I Really Need to Know I Learned from Hospice

Observations made by a seasoned Hospice Nurse, David Calhoun.

1. Physical death always wins.

2. Life is always too short.

3. All families are dysfunctional—it’s simply a continuum.

4. He who has the most toys does not win.

.
5. Tears celebrate life and love.

6. Those who have given the most receive the most.

.
7. The most powerful words are often those not spoken.

8. Even those who are not Jesus followers eventually want to leave a broken body.

9. One of the most powerful medications on earth is love—it’s amazing that you cannot over dose on it. Remember to use it to the maximum allowable dose.

 

10. Forgiveness is best not left to the death bed.

11. It’s OK to be uncomfortable, you can be comforted.

.
12. Pain is not always bad: it proves you are alive.

.
13. Death precedes living.

.
14. Live as if you are terminal. You are.
