Admissions Decisions

The Admissions Committee shall have the sole discretion to determine whether an applicant meets the standards and criteria for admission based on the applicant’s GPA, references, essay, overall fitness for ministry, and other submitted documents within the applicant’s file.

General Admission Information
  1. Refer to programs of study for specific admissions requirements and procedures.
  2. Admission to the Seminary is valid for one year from the term for which the applicant is admitted. If enrollment is postponed by more than one year, the applicant must reapply for admission.
  3. Those who register for courses and subsequently withdraw from school, or do not enroll in classes for more than one year, must reapply for admission.
  4. Records submitted during the application process are not returned. Transcripts from other institutions become a part of the permanent file and may not be copied or released.
  5. Applicants are expected to write and speak clear and correct English prose. Western Seminary reserves the right to ask the applicant to correct any deficiencies contained within materials submitted as part of the application process.

  7. An interview may be required upon request by the Admissions Committee.
Types of Acceptance

Applicants may be admitted with the following types of acceptance.

Full acceptance

Applicants who have been admitted into a degree or certificate program with no conditions.

Academic probation

Applicants who do not meet the minimum grade point average (GPA) required for admission to the program for which they have applied but are admitted at the discretion of the Admissions Committee. If a student has not earned the required GPA at the end of the probationary period (as defined by the terms of his or her admission), the sdtudent may be subject to dismissal.

Provisional acceptance

Applicants who are admitted and still need to submit final official transcripts with graduation date posted or those who may still need to complete supplemental documents and/or requirements.

Conditional acceptance

Applicants who have been admitted and have special conditions placed on their acceptance and may be denied registration or be subject to possible withdrawal from school if conditions are not met.

Returning Students

Subsequent to graduation, official withdrawal, or after one year’s absence from seminary enrollment, students who wish to attend classes or complete a second degree must reapply.

Reapplication procedures are as follows:

  1. Submit the application form.
  2. Provide a nonrefundable $50 Application Processing Fee.
  3. Submit a 250-500 word statement explaining:
    1. Reason for leave of absence or withdrawal,
    2. How circumstances have changed,
    3. Current plan, and
    4. Intended time frame for degree completion.
  4. Secure two new references, preferably persons who are well acquainted with work the applicant has been doing since attending Western Seminary.
  5. Submit official transcripts of any work done simultaneous with enrollment or after leaving Western Seminary.

Students who are readmitted are admitted to the catalog that is operative at the time of re-enrollment. Due to changes in degree plans and to time limitations on the completions of degrees, some academic work previously completed at Western Seminary may not apply to the degree program to which the student is being readmitted.

Readmitted students should contact the Registrar for a review of their former academic work.
