Ministry Minefields - Western Seminary

Like any training (think law, medical, higher ed., etc.), you can't be taught everything you need for success in your profession. You need to stay up-to-date with what is happening in the field. Ministry leaders have it especially challenging because of the many hats they wear, from CFO to teacher to CEO to priest, prophet, counselor, and even custodian. That is why we are offering this unique training to help you navigate the minefield in which your ministry may find itself, whether now or later!

After serving as a pastor for four years, Pastor Scott Richert, JD, wrote out a list of 25 situations that he said:

"Had I not been a lawyer, I would have had no idea how to handle these situations that pastors deal with regularly."

It was this reality that birthed a burden to help nonprofit leaders and pastors understand more about the complexities and dangers inherent to leading an organization. We are excited to have he and Father Lu Nguyen guide you through various mines that we often do not realize are prevalent in the culture.

About the Presenters

Father Lu Nguyen, PhD, JD

Father Lu Nguyen holds a PhD, is a nonprofit consultant and tax attorney, and a priest. His rich and eclectic wisdom are a gift unlike any other person holds. He serves churches and nonprofits passionately in various ways, and currently serves on the Board of Directors at Western Seminary.

Scott Richert, JD, MA

Scott Richert is a Western Seminary Sacramento Campus MA graduate who has practiced law for over two decades, in addition to serving as a teaching pastor since graduating from Western in 2014. Scott serves on the Board of Directors for both Anew Day Counseling Center and Western Seminary.
