Having recently established a growing partnership between Western Seminary and Calvary Global Network (CGN), it was exciting for Western to participate as a sponsor at CGN’s annual international conference that seeks for “Christ-centered people and churches throughout the world to connect, collaborate, and encourage one another.” This year’s theme focused on gospel ministry in a post-everything world.

With over 800 people in attendance at Calvary Chapel Costa Mesa, and an additional 4,500+ viewing online, it was encouraging to see speakers from around the world presenting on how to overcome the cynicism of the world through the Holy Spirit actively moving within God’s people as the united Church.

This conference also provided the opportunity for current Western students and alumni to gather together over lunch and share what they are currently learning and doing.

Western’s distinct approach to rigorous education with practical application is a perfect fit for men and women who desire to study God’s Word and grow without having to leave their ministry context behind. CGN is a movement of faithful pastors who love Jesus and serve the churches they minister within, and as such, seminary education is an opportunity for CGN pastors and leaders to grow in devotion to Jesus and God’s Word to become better equipped for their ministry. Western’s diverse student body allows for students to be challenged and grow in their theological convictions by learning from professors who are practitioners.

One example of this is Western’s long-time professor, Dr. Gerry Breshears. Being a regular contributor of this conference and an active supporter of CGN, he led a Theology Training Track session this year that welcomed over 40 people in attendance. Gerry spoke about the need for pastors to serve as resident theologians in the churches they lead. He guided discussion related to pressing theological questions and taught practical methods for how to better engage with and understand controversial topics within their own spheres of influence. Moments like these reflect the rigorous yet practical education one can expect from their time in seminary at Western.

We are grateful for gospel-centered ministry partners like CGN and the work they are doing to expand the kingdom. To learn more about this exciting partnership, visit our CGN partnership page.
