The annual meeting of and conference for the Northwest Region of the Evangelical Theological Society (ETS) is occurring on March 3rd at Western Seminary.
Historically (speaking of the 2,000-year history of Christianity), Christians have been leaders, innovators and makers of masterpieces in the realm of creativity/art. Christianity has been central to most of the best painting, music, and architecture in Western civilization. Sadly, the last century or so has seen a decline in this, and a more apathetic and skeptical posture of Christians toward the arts. The reputation of “Christian art” suffered and became more or less synonymous with moralistic, low-quality, sterilized propaganda. But there are signs of progress in reversing this!
As a woman called to teach the Word, I’m often looking for ministries or resources that better equip me to teach women. When I discover a good resource or get to be a part of a ministry that helps women handle the Bible well, I want to share! So I’m highlighting the Verity Fellowship, an excellent ministry in the Pacific Northwest geared towards women who minister the Word.
We’re glad to say that last year’s conference was not just a one-off, but that a second annual Canvas Conference is planned for August 11th-12th, again in Portland, OR.
Western Seminary is partnering with 9Marks to put on a conference about building healthy churches, to be held at Hinson Baptist Church, March 31-April 1. Speakers at this conference include Mark Dever, Shai Linne, Todd Miles, and Michael Lawrence. In anticipation of this conference, Transformed sat down with Mark Dever (senior pastor of Capitol Hill Baptist Church, in Washington D.C., and president of 9Marks) for a chat.
