Western Seminary Launches M.A. in Global Leadership to Empower Transformative Ministry Beyond U.S. Borders

Friday, February 27, 2015

Western Seminary pushes beyond traditional understandings of seminary by also preparing Christ-followers for gospel impact from the counseling office all the way to the Sunday school classroom. In that same spirit, Western now offers a M.A. in Global Leadership: an innovative degree designed for the practitioner whose ministry call and context are outside the United States.

This Global Leadership degree integrates biblical studies with leadership and intercultural studies so that students are prepared for professional or church-based work that conveys the gospel, internationally. So that students can benefit from diverse perspectives and experiences, Western is assembling a group of professors who serve outside the U.S. to train these students who will also be serving in diverse locales. Additionally, students will be guided by men and women who have gone before them during four semesters of Field Leadership Mentoring.

This program's distinct innovation comes in the form of cooperative partnerships with other schools and training organizations, which provide opportunities for specialized training. While all courses may be taken at Western, students who wish to specialize in Marketplace Ministry may take 8 credits in Corban University's Master of Business Administration program. Those who wish to move into justice ministries may take 8 credits in Denver Seminary's M.A. in Justice and Mission program. Other specializations linked to cooperative agreements with other schools will be announced in the coming months.

Requiring only 48 credits, this master's degree is Western's shortest. Students can complete a majority of this two-year program through online courses, with just two weeks each summer spent on the Portland campus for intensive courses.

Students may apply now for admission to the M.A. in Global Leadership program with courses beginning in the Fall 2015 semester.
