Due to the high cost of medical care, we regret that Western Seminary cannot assume the financial responsibility for hospitalization and medical expenses for students. All students are to purchase health insurance or have current health insurance from their organization or family. Enrollment for a health insurance plan must take place at registration or shortly after.
Below are some resources that you may use to solicit health insurance quotes. We are providing these for reference only and do not specifically endorse any of these companies or plans. There are a lot of options out there and so we encourage you to investigate carefully based on your needs and budget.
Oregon, Washington, and California Students (also may be available for other states)
A good website that provides health insurance information and quotes for a wide array of companies and policies is www.ehealthinsurance.com.
California Students only (and possible other states but not Oregon nor Washington)
There is insurance available for students through the American College Student Association. You can check their website at www.acsa.com. This insurance is only available through Dec. 31, 2013 however.
Affordable Care Act Changes
It should be noted that as the Affordable Care Act goes into effect on Jan. 1, 2014 when United States residents will be required to have healthcare coverage (save for paying a penalty). The new healthcare exchanges are being set up by states and will be available to sign up for open registration Oct 1 for coverage to begin Jan.1. We suggest you look into the impacts these new regulations will have for you and the types of coverage you could get in the new programs. Information about the new changes can be obtained at www.healthcare.gov which also contains links to the individual state websites.
