Feb. 24, 2026
Western Seminary is pleased to announce that Michael Leeman, PhD, LPC, has joined its core faculty team as associate professor of counseling. Leeman brings with him more than a decade of teaching and clinical experience, as well as a strong commitment to the integration of a Christian worldview with counseling best practices. His official start date is May 1.
"Throughout his candidacy process, I've enjoyed immensely getting to know Michael as someone who will strengthen our counseling department, is fun, warm, and personable, and who loves the Lord deeply," said John Y. Kwak, vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty.
Leeman completed his PhD in counselor education at Georgia State University. For the past eight years, he served as assistant professor in the counseling program at Southeastern Louisiana University. He has also served as a licensed professional counselor in multiple private practices and with a non-profit called No Heart Left Behind.
“I am truly excited and abundantly blessed to be joining the Western Seminary family,” says Leeman. “Throughout my career as a counselor, supervisor, and educator, I have become increasingly convinced that the most effective care for hurting people is rooted in both clinical excellence and a deep, biblically informed understanding of the human heart.”
Leeman is looking forward to joining a community that takes seriously both the scholarship and spiritual formation of its students.
“Western Seminary embodies that integration in a way that is rare and compelling, and I look forward to walking alongside faculty, staff, and future generations of counselors together as we equip men and women to bring healing, hope, and the love of Christ to the people and communities we will serve.”
