"We have a Good Shepherd who is gentle and kind yet calls us to follow him completely. When we can point people to him by inviting them to follow Jesus with us, we're doing the very best thing we can do for them. He invites us to come to him to find rest for our souls.
Jesus states in Matthew 11:28-30, 'Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.'
Here there's a yielding to him, a submission to him as our crucified and risen King. There's a willingness to learn from him — there's some content and some commands he expects us to obey. There is also a discovery of Christ's character, specifically that he is gentle and humble. And in that discovery, it's not a stressor or a heavy burden but rest. What a beautiful truth! And a beautiful thing to experience and to help others experience."

A Defining Moment

"A turning point for me that was more of a season than a moment came in my college years when I went away to school as a broken and hurting young man. I got connected into a campus ministry that changed my life. It was a process, but I remember the day that it dawned on me that God really was real as I was taught as a kid. I got discipled and began to grow and heal. I was taught how to read and study the Bible, how to walk with God, and how to walk in the grace God extends to those who are his own. That started me on a journey that continues to this day."
